In 2021, California lawmakers turned their attention to real estate’s racist past, with two new laws passed in 2021 that address bias.

Beginning in January 2023, real estate licensees and license applicants will need to complete implicit bias training during their licensing courses and 45-hour renewal courses.

Also passed in 2021 was AB 948, which requires cultural competency and anti-bias training for real estate appraisers and makes it unlawful for appraisers to discriminate in their appraisals or in making their services available to members of protected groups.

For this week’s poll, firsttuesday would like to learn more about the on-the-ground realities behind this legislation. Share your experiences with the firsttuesday editorial research team in the form below. Your responses are private and confidential.

This poll will close on January 24, 2022.
