Your Nationwide Multistate Licensing System (NMLS) renewal just got more entertaining.
California real estate licensees who hold either a mortgage loan originator (MLO) endorsement from the California Department of Real Estate (DRE) or are licensed with the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) may renew their annual NMLS registration with firsttuesday’s new 8-hour NMLS CE Online Video course.
The 2023 NMLS Video Renewal Course contains over 50 dynamic videos which deliver stress-free retention of core consumer mortgage concepts, making MLO regulations easier than ever to understand and remember.
The course complies with the NMLS “Successive Years” rule. Thus, when you took a firsttuesday course to renew their NMLS license last year you may renew this year by completing the new video renewal course this year.

Video NMLS course contents
The 8-hour video course covers:
- 3 hours of Federal Law and Regulations;
- 2 hours of Ethics and Consumer Protection;
- 2 hours of Nontraditional Lending; and
- 1 hour of California Elective material.
The Federal Law and Regulations specifically covers:
- the Truth-in-Lending Act (TILA);
- the Home Ownership and Equity Protection Act (HOEPA);
- Regulation (Reg) Z/Reg X and Reg P;
- the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA); and
- the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA).
Ethics and Consumer Protection examines:
- mortgage fraud;
- the Red Flags Rule;
- the Telemarketing and Consumer Fraud and Abuse Prevention Act (TCFAPA);
- mortgage advertisements; and
- the Mortgage Assistance Relief Services (MARS) rule.
Nontraditional Lending covers:
- nontraditional mortgage product risk;
- adjustable rate mortgages (ARMs); and
- home equity conversion mortgage (HECM) reverse mortgages.
The California Elective teaches about:
- the California Residential Mortgage Lending Act (CRMLA);
- California Finance Lender (CFL) licensing; and
- the Homeowner Bill of Rights (HBOR).
The Video NMLS course includes 8 modules. Each module ends with a 5-question quiz. Once all the modules and quizzes have been completed, you may take your final exam comprised of 25 questions. The passing score is 70%.
