!) Jon Loren, what you point to is way under the radar of the common agent. What you point to, however, is a profound business “opportunity” mostly for that nationwide duopoly, CAR/NAR. Merriam-Webster states where they are going:
“Exclusive control of a particular market that is marked by the power to control prices and exclude competition and that especially is developed willfully rather than as the result of superior products or skill — see also antitrust, Sherman Antitrust Act”
2) Most interestingly, the road to get there is being paid by the agents themselves who will become the monopolies un-witting pawns enslaving themselves.
3) Local boards (many but thankfully not all) continue demonstrating their allegiance to their own job security as “administrators” and not advocates for the real estate agents they’re suppose to represent. If that sounds familiar, just look at the US Congress.
Zillow is, of course, embarked on a similar end-run around BRE licensed agents….and they’ve proven to be remarkably successful so far.
