Updated Dec. 18, 2014
Calif. Business & Professions Code §115.4
Added by S.B. 1226
Effective date: July 1, 2016
The California Bureau of Real Estate (CalBRE) is required to expedite processing of real estate license applications for applicants who provide proof of honorable discharge from active-duty service in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Editor’s note — This bill does not specify measures to implement the expedited processing mandate. Other recent legislation (A.B. 1904, 2012) requires California licensing boards (including CalBRE) to expedite license application processing for active-duty military spouses who hold equivalent out-of-state licenses.
CalBRE plans to update its licensing forms to include questions about military service, and will begin expediting military applications on July 1, 2016. According to a CalBRE spokesperson, the agency does not currently have an estimate for the anticipated reduction in processing time for military applicants.
Sent my application to the P.O. Box designated for this with the all the original documents as required. They would not accept delivery to a P.O. Box as signature required so I mailed with two first class stamps as instructed by the DRE. Now two months later, they have lost my application, claim that I never mailed it, and require me to hunt down everyone all over again to complete a new wet signature application. Thanks guys! Really helping combat wounded veterans here!
Even though I have a scanned full color copy of my complete application with blue ink signatures, DRE refuses to work with me or show any form of humanity or empathy.
if you read the instructions carefully, you will know exactly what to do. I read and re read the instruction on the application 2-3 times to make sure I was doing everything correctly. There is also a different po box for veterans which is listed on the application. It took Calbre only 7 days to process my application. It should be obvious that they would need some proof of an honorable discharge, so don’t forget to include your dd214.
Good Info. I mailed my combo sales exam and license on Tuesday, 9-27-16 and I live in Sacramento which is where it was sent from so they should have received it by 9/28. I checked my bank everyday to see if they cashed my check and as of 10/3, the check still hasn’t posted. So I’m not sure if they’ve even started the process yet. How soon did you see your app fee processed after you mailed it? Did you submit the combo or just the exam? I’m with you, I reviewed the paperwork several times and included my dd214. Thanks for your input and good luck with the exam.
Great info Army Vet. I mailed my combo sales and license app on 9/27/16 and live and sent from Sacramento so they should have received by 9/28/16. I’ve been checking my bank account to see if they deposited my check and it’s now 10/3 and it has not been deposited. How long did it take for you to see that they deposited your app fee or credit card? Did you apply for the combo or just the exam? Broker or Sales? Thanks for your help.
Took my broker exam and passed, only to be told by the DRE one week later that they refuse to process my new license until I provided proof of an honorable discharge and I would have to send it snail mail and wait for them to process it. They said it would take 5 or 6 weeks after they received my DD-214. The broker application failed to mention a requirement that I provide a DD-214 with it, and it also did not stipulate that only veterans with honorable discharges are considered for licenses. Luckily, after spending a lot of time and money preparing for the exam, I have an honorable discharge, but I am definitely not getting expedited service.
Is this a creation of another ‘special interest’ group? If I show I was in combat do I get ahead of someone who worked in the cafeteria?
I do not like all the special interest groups politicians must cater to, but if you put your butt on the line, why not. BTW many soft skill MOS’s put their lives at risk as well (IRAQ/AFGHANISTAN). I never hold them beneath me or any other specialty.
Stop complaining, be thankful, and Move Out!
